We're so excited! Wedding season Is coming back.
We know we have to be cautious as we slowly come out of lockdown, but who else is so happy about the prospect of Weddings happening again?
If you are newly engaged, or been engaged for a while but have been too scared to get your hopes up, we have 5 top Wedding questions to get you thinking and give you the drive to start planning and brainstorming.
What should you be prioritising? What should you be thinking about first? The list is endless, hopefully we can narrow it down a little for you. Here goes:
1.
How do I allocate my budget? – The ‘easy’ part (and I obviously use inverted commas here!) is coming up with the total amount you can afford. What I mean by this is how do you decide how much to spend on decor, the food, the venue, the dress etc from that total budget? Quite simply you have to decide what is most important to you. What do you really want your day to be about. Once you know this you can allocate the strongest part of the budget to what means the most to you. Whether that’s your dress, your party, your guests, your theme. Whatever you really want to focus on. Be honest with yourselves and go with your heart. You won’t regret it and it will make future decisions so much easier. Our ‘Newly Engaged. What to Do Now’ blog may also give you some guidance about what is important to you.
2.
What should I book first? – Again there’s no hard and fast rules with this but logically, your priority should be where there is the most competition. This means that obviously your wedding venue should be at the top of your list (and if you have the priority list from question 1 you will hopefully have some idea of the type of venue you need, is location, environment, capacity etc. This should be closely followed by your photographer, videographer, caterers, bands, DJ (these can be booked so far in advance it’s crazy!). Your next phase is really your cake (although these suppliers can also be super sought after), stationery, florist, hair and makeup. ‘What about my wedding dress?’ I hear you cry. This is personal; some people choose well in advance and others like to wait till nearer the time. Always leave at least 6 months though for ordering and alterations!
3.
Who do I invite to my wedding? – Again, this is hugely subjective. Your decisions here should be linked back to the priorities we talked about in question 1. If your budget is restricted this will impact who are able to invite. Equally, if your priority is you as a couple, you may want to keep the guest list personal and select and only have the people that mean the most to you. ‘Plus Ones’ and children always cause some anxiety. The best advice out there is to follow your instincts. It is your day and you should be able to invite who you would like. And of course, you do have the evening invites for people you would like to see on your day but you can’t quite justify the budget for in the day. Weddings are, unfortunately, not the cheapest and you don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on each other.
